“Fenelon
has taken the idea of Hopi and Navajo mythological figures and
married it to contemporary cartoons and Aztec codices, producing
mixed-media ‘designer toys’ that are brilliantly painted,
idiosyncratic objects; hip little statuettes about a foot tall,
covered in funky scribbles done in deep, pure hues.”

S
H A G is pleased to present the new works of Dan “Wavedog”
Fenelon. His works have appeared in galleries in New York,
Miami, Philadelphia, Boston, Santa Fe, Chicago and Paris, France.
His education started at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in
Boston 1980-1984. After school Dan has gone on to have ten one-man
shows around the country. His visionary "urban primitive"
style has become his signature look and now he is pushing the edge
with a new body of mixed media canvases.
Part
of Dan's skill set includes his work in the graphics field. As a
graphic designer his work ranges from national sports logo designs
to Hot Wheels and American Chopper. When he isn’t busy
painting or doing graphic design work Dan creates and animates his
own cartoons based on the wavedog character.
His
passion and skills as an artist extend into his local community
where he works on special programs with at-risk teens at the Youth
Shelter and Neighborhood House. Combining his talent with the raw
angst of these urban youth Dan and his kids have produced totemesque
imagery that can be seen on display at the Morristown NJ train
station.
